Question Hi, i have mid length(about an inch past the shoulders) hair, razored and thinned out for the bottom third. My hair just does not cooperate. I use Sunsilk straight to perfection shampoo and conditioner, towel dry my hair a bit, then i blowdry, straighten in sections and i've recently started using sunsilk flexible hold spray. The spray does work better than before, but it seems in about 5 mins of doing my hair, it starts to poof. My hair isnt really that frizy, and its fine. I thought maybe it was the humidity, which im pretty sure is majorly affecting it, but its like every type of weather my hair just does not want to hold its style. How can i keep my hair straight without it starting to poof out?
Answer Hiya Ariel,
Sorry for the delay in the response. I was sick. :-( So, poofy hair. You may have had it thinned out a bit too much, eliminating necessary weight. Why is your hair being thinned? Is it too thick for your style? I almost never thin unless the style we want to do requires it. Are you using a straightening product with thermal protection when you blow dry and then iron? You need that for several reasons; hold factor, humidity resistance, and heat protection.
Hair spray is not the same thing. You need a styling aid. I like Sexy Hair Smooth and Seal or Kenra Thermal Setting Spray #18. I also like Redken's straightening line as well. When I straighten my clients, I always apply Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum to blow dry and Sexy Hair Smooth and Seal with the flat iron. Then, if it is particularly humid or rainy, they can apply the Paul Mitchell Serum throughout the day if they need to.
Shampoo and conditioner help, but they are not designed to hold style. You may want to see what kind of styling aids and thermal protectants are in the line you're already using.
Good luck,
dana
