Question hello.. a few years ago i bleached my hair. it was a light brownish color.. i decided i didn't like it so i colored it back to brown shortly after. is it safe to do a perm on it??
Answer Hiya Ally,
If it's been several years the previously colored hair must be on the ends, no? If there is a lot of hair with color on it, and a lot with no color, you may need to use two different formulas. One for the virgin hair and a milder formula for the color treated hair. In general though, as long as your hair is in good condition, you can perm it. If it is excessively dry, breaking or splitting, you'll end up having to cut that off. Perming is most difficult over highly bleached hair. Hair that has been lifted to platinum or very light blond for example.
Your stylist may want to have you do a deep protein conditioning treatment or two prior to the service, or may choose to do one the day of the perm, but it sounds like it's safe. I'd be able to be more specific if I could see and touch your hair but if it isn't safe, I'm sure your stylist will tell you what you need to do to get your hair in good shape.
Good luck,
dana
