Question hi I am a college student and have been doing questions from previous exams papers,and was wondering if you could give me 5 safety precautions when applying highlights to the hair,any information on this or anything else that would be useful for my course would be nice to get,thanking you,Vanessa
Answer Vanessa,
5 safety tips that come to mind are;
1. Don't overlap onto previously highlighted hair
2. Place foils neatly, and develop standardized patternings for yourself, so that you can
easily repeat your service retouch.
3. Don't press your foils too flat. It pushes the product away from the hair and gives spotty results or can cause bleeding of product out of the foils.
4. Unless using a product specifiecally design for doing so, don't place foils under a dryer. The heat causes a more violent chemical reaction, creating excess and unnecessary damage and can also cause the product to expand and bleed out of the foils.
5. If working with bleach, increase your developer volume by 5 or 10 volume about evry 15-20 minutes, starting in the nape at the most resistant part, woking up to the top and then finally to the temples, where the hair is least resistant and processes more quickly. This way, the differences in resistance combined with the increasing speed of lightening, everything get done at the same time.
And a sixth as well, for good measure. The thicher the section in the foil the longer it will take to lighten, and the more difficulty you will have getting it light.
Best of luck to you.
