Hairstyling - Geled sidburns help

Question
Now I have been trying to gel my sideburns down like MJ in these photos:

Now I tried and used a few gels and none would hold the hair down all day except this blue gel that came in this yellow container. But the thing is it has alcohol in it.(the ones that didn't hold all day didn't have any alcohol in it.)

Will alcohol damage my hair if I use it everyday? But I usually take a wash cloth and take up the sideburns at the end of the day and wet it to try and wash the gel out.

Will that still damage my hair?

And if so, are there any products or methods I could use to make sure my hair stays down all day without alcohol products?

I'm asking becuase MJ had his sideburns down like that ALL THE TIME.

Even during concert runs when he appeared in public almost like ever 2 days.

How do you think he did it and keeped them so nice?

First of all, you want a firm hold gel. And it doesn't matter of it has alcohol. especially on the sideburns it's not going to make a difference. By the time it would cause any dryness to the hair, the sideburns are so short, the ends would have been cut off already.
