Question
I had a spiral perm done two weeks ago.My hair is very long and thick. To give you an idea, they counted the rods and lost count at 163, they guessed at the rest to be a total of almost 200! The first couple days were great then it seams as if it is falling out possibly(the curl). I waited a complete 4 days before washing and they only required 3. When my hair is wet it is very curly, as it dries it gets frizzy and curls fall out. What would cause this? The stylist had said that because i take several perscription medications that it might not take...but it is fine when wet. What options do i have to try and bring the curls out when my hair is dry? Would a hair cut help? My hair is one length so would a layer help?..or different products? Now i am using a product called "curl up" by KMS California...it says it is a curling balm. Then after i use hairspray by Biolage. This seams to hold it for most of the day but by night it will have fallen out. Please help! I am attaching a photo of my hair while it is dry with no hair products so you can see what i am trying to explain.
Answer Hiya Maria,
If your hair holds the curl for most of the day, and by evening has fallen, it is simply too heavy. Layers would absolutely help. Since you have curl when your hair is wet, your medications did not prevent the perm from taking.
Curly hair, whether permed or natural will be a bit frizzy if you don't use products and don't keep it healthy. I would recommend the Kenra product line, DevaCurls, or Mizani and a good haircut. From what I can tell in the photo, your hair does not look damaged so a bit of layering and the continued use of good products should do the trick.
The way to care for curly hair is a bit different than straight hair as well. Do not pull or tug on it. Always scrunch. Squeezing the water out with a t-shirt or micro-fiber towel is best. You need a bit of protein and a bit of moisture but if you buy products designed for curly hair, they will be formulated that way. Plus, once it's dry, try to avoid running your hands through it or pulling. Always scrunch if you must touch but curly hair shouldn't be combed or tugged n once it's dry.
Good luck,
dana
