Question
QUESTION: I went natural 5 years ago. I have type 3 curly hair. I use a good shampoo, conditioner, and an activator/moistureizer. What precautions should I take before texturizing (how long after a shampoo)? How do I care for texturized hair?

ANSWER: Wilma,
First of all, I would hope that you'll be having the texturizer done professionally. As with any chemicals ervice like this, the hair should not be freshly shampooed, as natural oils and the natural acid mantle of the scalp help sheild it from the chemicals. So give it a few days, and basing is not a bad idea if you are sensitive.
The after care is the same as for a relaxer, as it's chemically the same service, only not fully straightened.
Best of luck to you.

QUESTION: Can I continue to use a curl activator on texturized hair?  HOW WOULD IT AFFECT MY HAIR.  I DO NOT WISH TO SET AND STYLE MY HAIR WITH ROLLERS; ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thank you.

Answer
Wilma,
You can certainly use the same products you use now. A texrurizer is basically a mild relaxer left on for a short time, just to open the curl pattern. If you have a tight curl it will open it up. If your hair is kinky, it won't help that as much, since it just opens the pattern.
Your stylist can help you choose the best service for your hair type and texture.
Best of luck to you.
