Question There is a new product out called"caribbean dream relaxer".
I have googled it and it claims to be the healthier version of the Brazilian keratin. (no chemicals, and much cheaper).
The stylist I went to specializes in Brazilian and kept talking me out of the caribbean saying its more damage,etc...I don't know if she is just trying to sell me to do the brazilian? I am very confused of which perm is safer and better...do you know anything about these?
Answer Deb,
Caribbean Dream and Brazilian Keratin treatments are two totally different animals. Brazilian Keratin is totally non damaging and not permanent. It shampoos out in 2-3 months and does not change the structure of the hair. It also does not totally straighten hair, but just smooths out frizz and makes it more managable. Caribbean Dream, although an excellent product (I've used it also), is a chemical sevice that can be used to straighten, smooth out frizz or shange the curl pattern of hair. It is a permanent chemical rearranger that grows out. The Keratin treatment is so expensive because of the time requires to perform the service and also because the product itself costs about $10 an ounce, which adds up quickly. And as mentioned before, it is NOT a perm, NOT a relaxer, NOT a straightener, but is marketed by the companies as a keratin TREATMENT. The public keeps refering to it as a keratin straightener, etc.
Best of luck to you.
