Question
QUESTION: how can I cover up the grey roots in between colouring my hair?

ANSWER: Hiya Shirley,

If I understand your question, you want to know how to conceal the gray new growth in between visits to the salon. Is that correct? Wearing your hair a bit fuller, a bit of backcombing on top and down or toward your face on the front and sides will make it less noticeable.

Sally Beauty Supply carries a thing called a color stick. You get one close to the color of your hair color and just like a crayon, cover the gray that is showing. I don't like these but I have several clients who use them.

Colored shampoos such as L'Oreal Professional color enhancing shampoo may help although it's not really designed to color hair. It does keep the color fresh though.

Gray is also less noticeable if the color you dye it is only a level o two away from the gray. So, if your hair, for example is 80% gray and you dye it a medium to light blond, it won't be as noticeable. If it is 80% gray and you dye it brown, a few hilights in the top and on the sides in a lighter shade will minimize the outgrowth as well.

Other than that, I would need more details from you so I hope that helps.

Good luck, :-)

dana

QUESTION: Were can I purchase the colour stick from Sally Beauty supply?

ANSWER: You can purchase it online at www.sallybeauty.com but I would imagine that beauty supply stores in your area would carry a similar product. Ask for a color stick or cover up stick. They look like glue sticks or crayons depending on which ones your stores carry.

Here's the one Sally carries.

QUESTION: Becasue I hate regrowth, I colour the sides and forehead every week in between visits to the salon.  I recently had a shorter hair cut and noticed that the hair around my face is darker than the rest.  What can I do to prevent this yet not have the regrowth showing.  Thanks

Answer
WOW...every week. You are going to have a hard time keeping the color from overlapping if you do it that often. Have you tried using a color enhancing shampoo rather than touching up your color that often? Even though these types of shampoos are not designed to color hair, the new growth is very susceptible and easy to color. You may want to find one closest to your chosen color and try coloring every 2 to 3 weeks instead. If you feel you must do it weekly, the color stick is a perfect solution for you. It will conceal the new growth perfectly. My hair grow very quickly. I have enough to cover without overlapping the new color application about every 3 weeks and even I don't do it weekly.

Wearing your hair with a bit of volume and toward your face a bit will conceal any new growth as well. My hair is thick and coarse so unless it's windy or someone is very close, they cannot see my new growth even though it's nearly solid white on top and my hair color is brown.

I really think the color stick is going to please you. Give it a try.
