Question Hi dana, i have been using igora royal 12-1 special blonde to color my hair, i have a hairdresser that used to color my hair and she taught me how to do it at home. i love the color but as i have got older the grey color underneath is a more whiter shade and i feel like it looks to harsh. i really like wearing my hair up but i cannot do this at the moment as you can see too much of the whiter blonde. i would like advice on what low lights i could get in my hair. i do not want my hair dark as i love having blonde hair i just want to know what color would look nice and would break it up. thanks i need your help asap
Answer Hiya Ann,
This question is harder to answer than you might imagine. Unless you are a licensed stylist, you should not even be able to buy the Igora. If you have access to it, the most delicate way is to get a color one or two shades darker in the same tone for the low lights. Since 12 is a light blond going a couple of shades darker will still be very light.
If you don't have access to Igora, shoot for a neutral or warm dark to medium blond. Do not put ash or cool colors on your very light hair as it will turn gray, green, violet, whatever, depending on the undertoneo of the color you use for the low light. A level 7 or 8 gold/beige is the color I use most often on my clients who still want to be light blond but need a bit of softening that tone on tone color gives them. The gold/beige is great for gray coverage as well.
