Question
QUESTION: im 16 now my hair after a take a shower it becomes curly, frizy and really hard to work with. when it gets this way it makes me warmer and all sweaty and i cant take it being sweaty because i have bad acne. but before i got a perm about 4 years ago (im beleiving the perm made it like this) my hair ws straight softer and not frizy at all, itkinda looked like the woman off of the new pantean commercial but wasnt that hair color. iv been useing a straightening iron to keep it under control and it makes it not frizy and silky like. i dont want to use a iron anymore it damages hair, and i know thats probily part of the problem. and iv been useing naturals herbal shampoo that has wild cherry bark and rosemary and advanced expressions conditioner iv been useing the shampoo for months now and the conditioner for a couple weeks but befor that i was using kirkland signature hawaiian ginger conditioner for a long time and i hate to saythis but iv been using that kirkland conditioner for a straightening cream but it seems to work as good as the dove straightening cream i used before but i ran out and dont have money for some. iv used tons of different products and none seem to work but iv noticed a few made my hair harder to manage than others. how can i keep my hair straight without useing an iron constantly iv been useing one morning on school days but when im not going anywhere i let it be no irons then please help

thank you

ANSWER: Hiya Krystine,

Well, first of all, if you had the perm 4 years ago, it would have to have been cut out by now. If you still have that old perm on the ends, you seriously need a haircut. What you do to the outside though, does not affect what is going on on the inside, so once the perm is gone, your hair will be the same as it was before. However, hormones can change the texture of your hair and at your age, it is much more likely that hormones have changed your hair than a perm you had 4 years ago.

The bottom line is this; if your hair is naturally wavy, the only way to get it straight and keep it that way is to either use straightening balm of some sort and either round brushing it while you use the blow dryer or using your flat iron. It you have enough wave, you could apply a curl definer like Curls Rock and scrunch your hair. It will make the wave look like you did it on purpose and it will smooth any waves away.

A good product line if you want is straight is StraightSexy by SexyHair and if you want to try it curly, try the Curls Rock line by Tigi Bed head.

Good luck, ;)

QUESTION: how can i tell if i have the perm on the ends when my hair is
sholder legnth?

ANSWER: The texture will be a bit different but you should know anyway. If you have not had all of it cut out, the curl will look a bit different or the ends will be quite a bit lighter. Since it's been 4 years, if you've had hair cuts on a regular basis, it should all be cut out by now.

QUESTION: is SMOOTH N SHINE Polishing Straight Out Non Chemical Relaxing
Balm a good straightening product with a straightening iron?

Answer
I have never used that product myself, but it is designed to be used with heat styling tools like flat irons and curling irons. That means it has thermal protectant and since it is designed to smooth and straighten, it has some hold too. Since everyone's hair is a bit different, what works for one, may not be the best choice for another. So the only way to tell is to try it. That being said, it is  made for flat irons so give it a try.
