Hairstyling - perming color treated hair

Expert: Don Orlando - 6/29/2009

Question
I have very curly hair and I also color it about every 4-5 weeks. I want to perm my hair with very large rods to smooth it out some but worried about doing it since I color it. What are your thoughts. My hair color is red.

Answer
barbara,
There are perms specifically for color treated hair.
Maybe you should consider a Brazilian straightening. Similar to the Japanese straightening but better for your hair. It is done right after coloring. it also locks in the color. I have seen big rod perms to straighten but the result is a little frizzy.
