I too had that problem. I used Loreal Les Blondissimes and had areas of bumps, hair loss, and burning. I had to see a dr. and a dermatologist. It was so bad she thought I had tinea capitus. I forgot what the dermatologist said, it was several long words, but some kind of pustuals. I had severe itching and no hairdresser would color my hair due to what they called "hot spots." I stopped using Loreal.

I have the same issue going on right now and I have been told it is an allergy by my doctor. Reseacrhing online has told me that maybe it is an allergic reaction to the PPD used in hair dye. I had my hair dyed Dec 28th and am still dealing with its effects. I have dyed my hair for the past 20 years and noticed this effect about two hairdyes ago. The first time it was just my head and ears, but this time it has spread over my entire body. I would go to a dermatologist to have an allergy test done, becasue if you continue and it is in fact an allergic reaction it can eventually, over more uses, become a severe reaction leading to death. Again, this is the severe case but get checked out before dying your hair again. They also say to do the patch test recommmended on the box also. I hope this helps...from one who can sympathize!

I dyed my hair every 6 month for about 6 year and never had a problem. 2 years ago I had my 2nd baby 2 months after he was born (didn't dye will prego)I dyed my hair and had an allergic reaction. I had always used the dye from Sally'sŪ beauty supplies. So I figured that maybe the baby had changed the chemical balance in my body therefor making me now allergic to the ammonia that is most often found in professional strength hair dye. This week I decided that I am tired of the gray hair and was going to try an ammonia free hair dye from the drug store, attempted to do my hair last night but as soon as I applied dye to my hair it started burning I rinsed it out quickly and washed it was barely in my hair 2 minutes I sit here now with very red, burning, and blustery scalp. So pass it on to your friends that dye their hair regularly that if they have a baby they may or may not become allergic to hair dye.

I also had the same thing happen. I had to be on prednisone. I went to the ER as my eyes we swollen almost shut. I was told by my doctor to go to an allergist. I did and after spending $1,800 found out the ingredient that everyone is allergic to is phenylenediamine or PPD. All the colors contain it and to find one on the shelf is virtually impossible. I had it happen at first as an itchy scalp and would have to shampoo my hair within 3 hrs. again after coloring it. It just got worse and worse each time I colored my hair. Now I am gray and happy but it took weeks for that stuff to get out of my system. I went through 3 different doses of prendisone before I was done. I now color my hair with coffee. Yep, just take some brewed coffee and add instant. You just need a little.I dab it on my most grey mainly in the front. I was rinsing my whole head in it while I was in the shower but found it was less messy to just use a little after I got out and dab it on. I'm sure if it stains your teeth it will stain your hair. I plan on trying some tea as well. Hope this helps, good luck. Sally

I am 52 with 90% grey since I was 18 I have always used a black color shop bought hair dye. At the age of 47 I started to get sores which became itchy I tried different dyes but it just got slowly worse. I was worried that I could get a full blown attack and end up in hospital so I surfed the net for answers and help. The name Sanotint came up, I tried this and kept my fingers crossed lovely color my hair was so soft but low and behold the blisters came up worse than ever. Even though it has no Ammonia and is Parabens free it still has The dreaded PHENYLENEDIAMINE which I know now is what I am allergic to. Sadly they can't make black hair dye with out it. The darker the hair dye the more they need to put in to it. So I have said to my self There is another way I must forget about having my black lovely long hair and make a change. So for the next step I have just tried Sanotint ( LIGHT) It works the only PHENYLENEDIAMINE free hair dye in the UK.
