About Timothy D. Hufnagle
Expertise
I have an extensive background in the music of Daryl Hall and John Oates. I`ve been a devoted fan since 1984, and my collection specializes in the music of these two artists. My "expertise" would span all the way back to the late 1960s (when they did session work with other artists and were in other bands) up to the present day. My "expertise" also includes knowledge of their collaborative efforts with other artists, compilations, singles, and albums. Unfortunately, I can not help anyone who has questions about concert dates (past, present, or future), Hall & Oates souvenirs and memorabilia, radio shows, or bootleg recordings. I also will not answer any questions pertaining to Daryl and John`s personal lives. I'm a firm believer that if you want information on someone`s personal life, go ask them yourself. :-)

Experience
I have been a collector of popular music since I was about 4 years old. I was a professional mobile disc jockey for 4 years when I was in my 20s. I've met both Daryl and John on several occasions. I've interviewed numerous musicians, producers, and industry personnel who have worked with H&O. I am a webmaster for my ongoing research website: PhillyMoods.com

Organizations
I currently belong to the "Hall & Oates All Access Club," and periodically contribute to the online HallAndOates.com Discussion Forum. I also used to be a long-time member of the following three Hall and Oates Fan Clubs (when the organizations were still in existence): "RSI (Rock and Soul International: The Official Daryl Hall and John Oates Fan Club)," "In Touch" (the UK Hall and Oates Fan Club), and "Link" (the Australian Hall & Oates Fan Club).

Publications
For Hall and Oates: I made contributions to "RSI" newsletters, in "Link" newsletters, in *Lexicon* magazine, and in "Elephant Talk" online mailing list digests pertaining to Daryl Hall's work with Robert Fripp (of King Crimson fame). My research was mentioned on the air at KOST 103.5 (Los Angeles, CA) in October 2002. I worked on the 2006 Varese Sarabande CD compilation, "The Philadelphia Years" (I assembled the discography notes along with some other aspects).

Education/Credentials
I have a B.A. in Integrative Arts from the Pennsylvania State University, and my degree focused on Popular Culture and Creative Writing. I also have a M.A. in Popular Culture from Bowling Green State University (OH). I taught popular culture courses while I was a grad student, and after being graduated, was hired as an instructor for the Dept. of Popular Culture. I also worked for the BGSU Music Library and Sound Recordings Archives (one of the largest public archives of popular sound recordings in the USA--second only to the Library of Congress), and for the Ray and Pat Browne Library for Popular Culture Studies.

Thanks again Tim, I went on Rhino site and they do not have Atlantic series available. If you had one for sale, I would be willing to buy from you.

Hi Bill,

Sorry for the slight delay in responding.  I was sick this past weekend and I've been playing catch-up ever since.

Thank you for sharing your story about your wedding and the Hall and Oates song!  That is terrific, and quite special!

In answer to your questions....

Yes, "Goodnight and Goodmorning" was on the 1972 Atlantic album *Whole Oats* (which was Daryl and John's first album, and "Whole Oats" was the name the duo went by for a short time before just being "Daryl Hall and John Oates").  That song was also released as a single for the duo back in those early years.

*Whole Oats* was released on CD, but has been long out of print...which means you will probably find copies of it on eBay for high prices.  I wouldn't go that route.  Instead, you could get a copy of Rhino's Hall and Oates single-disc compilation *The Atlantic Years* which would fill that void, and then some.  The collection (put out in 1996) has 21 H&O tunes from their early 1970s Atlantic Records studio albums.  To boot, almost all of the *Whole Oats* album is on this collection, and your song is the very first track on the disc!

While this Rhino CD may have just gone out of print, a lot of online sites still offer it, and I'm sure some music shops in your area might still have it on their shelves.  It is very reasonably priced, too (about 10-15 bucks).  If it turns out that you can't locate a copy, let me know.  I actually might have an extra sealed copy to sell you laying around somewhere.

"G&G" is also available in an unpolished, stripped down demo version on multiple other compilation CDs out there ("The Early Years," "Past Times Behind," "Gold," etc., etc.).  But, the version that was played at your wedding was probably from the studio album, as the demos weren't made available commercially until the early/mid 80s, and even then, they were released without Daryl and John's permission, and were hard to come by.

Finally, in terms of lyrics....here they are verbatim...straight from the liner notes of my vinyl copy of the album:

"Goodnight And Goodmorning"
(D. Hall & J. Oates)

Funny how the times can change as fast as we can run
Sad to say we had to part when the fun had just begun
Now the night is over
And I'm waiting for the day we can be together
And we can say Goodnight and Goodmorning
From the Dark to the Dawning.

I can't believe that I'm in love and you're the one
I can hear a song of love and our song has just begun
When the music's over and we finally walk away
We can walk together
And we can say Goodnight and Goodmorning
From the Dark to the Dawning.

****

That's it!  Hope that helps!
Take care, and thanks again for writing in.  Feel free to post feedback if you so choose.

Cheers,
t

Answer
Hi Bill,

I'm sorry for long delay in getting back to you.  I finally tracked down my extra copy of *The Atlantic Collection* on CD.  If you are still interested in purchasing this, and if you haven't already located the CD or song elsewhere, I'd be willing to sell it.  It is still sealed in its original shrinkwrap and stickers--21 songs with a very nice insert-booklet that chronicles the duo's early history and discussions of how each song came to be.  $15 plus shipping/insurance

Supply me with your actual e-mail address, and we can exchange mailing addresses/payment options.

All the best,
Tim
