Question I have a motorola model MD491sys digital 2.4GHZ cordless phone system (2 cordless phones and a base phone). It says on the packaging "Privacy of communications may not be ensured when using this phone". Can people listen in to my phone conversations?
Answer Well, Joe, I think they are mainly trying to cover all the bases so they won't get sued.
Any time you have wireless communications there is a possibility that those communications could be overheard. But with a 2.4GHZ cordless phone the odds are extremely small. The phone has a digital privacy system that makes just listening in on a radio capable of tuning onto that frequency impossible. If someone were nearby enough (within a couple of hundred feet) and had a phone identical to yours which was set up exactly the same way as yours, then they could listen.
Do you have a remote garage door opener? If so when was the last time someone opened yours with their remote opener? The odds are similarly small.
