Question
I get unknown callers on my two way radio when they are turned on.I want to buy a new pair that will not have this problem. Can you advise me as to what to look for to avoid this problem? I would like to keep the cost under $75.00 dollars.

Answer
Hi, Leonard -- Not sure we can keep within the price range but you need a modern two-way personal or business system with various kinds of either security and/or encryption. Go visit a radio dealer and, if your main goal is to avoid other users, with a tone paging system built in. Among their trade names are "Private Line" and "Channel Guard," or with the word "Digital" in front of those names. What happens is that the transmitters (yours and anyone else on your system) sends a tone, now frequently inaudible, that can be heard only on receivers programmed to recognize that tone. Checking with a local dealer is the best way to avoid disppointment or confusion about what you want.
