Question
On my stupid part i left my laptop HDD plugged into my USB port on my PC. It started making a real high pitch Squeaking sound and it cannot read. I know it is shot. But by any chance is there away to salvage data from it..

Answer
Two programs I like
Testdisk

getdataback
http://www.runtime.org/

I have heard of people putting overheated drive in a ziplock in the freezer so it stays chilled when they try to use it at least for a few seconds. Whether this works or not I don't know. Plus I would think condensation would be a major problem. But if the drive doesn't work, its worth a shot.
