Subject: Maxtor Ext HD not recognized on XP

Question
I have a new Maxtor onetouch mini 4.  It is not recognized at all on this machine (AMD 2.1 G processor 3 G RAM.  XP sp3)  It works on a Vista Laptop and another XP Desktop.  I talked to Seagate without help.  USB ports seem to work OK with other devices.  Thanks

Answer
First make sure you have all the windows updates including service pack 3 -avail from windows update.
Then connect the drive using a different USB port (windows remembers so this will force it to re identify the drive).
Then right click my computer and choose manage (if the drive does not come up). Scroll down to disk management and see if the drive is seen in the lower right windows after you click on disk management. If it is there we have one hurdle down if not check and make sure you have USB 2.0 - there are some probs with USB 1 and larger drives.
You can also drive maxtors big drive enabler
