Question
Chris,
I have a Sony Vaio that has an 80G harddrive (Win XP)that was partitioned when I inherited it. At the time I thought nothing of it, but now my available C drive memory is very low (<2.5G) and the computer is running VERY slow. I thought I could get some partion manager software and resize the D partition (54G free) and put some of that space back in the C drive. Will this help my system performance? Is this possible without sacrificing the data in either drive? Can you recommend a good software to do this?
Re: slowness on the C drive - I have System Mechanic and have optimized, cleaned the registry, etc...
I appreciate your help!

You'll surprised what this puppy gets rid of. Say no to demo mode.

As far as partitioning. Yes you can do what you want but what data that is most likely on the D partition is the system restore. Most computers don't come with OP disks anymore. They just come with a restore partition.
If you have an XP disk or have Norton ghost or Acronis true image, you don't need this partition. As ghost and Acronis will let you image the current drive, and an XP CD will let you reinstall windows using the key on the bottom or side of the computer.
Partition magic or Acronis disk manager both will let you get rid of the D: partition or resize it giving the space back to the C: drive. They are both easy to use, just make sure you make restore disks. Nothing usually goes wrong but if it does you'll want to be able to put it back the way it was.
All acronis software comes with 30 day trials, and I would recommmend them over Ghost or partition magic.
