Hard Drive Problems - Problem with portable harddrive not in my computer

Expert: Will - 7/1/2009

Question
I've searched countless threads and found numerous people with this problem with slight differences. My problem is that my i/o Magic 80gb portable hard drive is not showing up in my computer. My hard drive shows in disk management and in the device manager. When I plug in the hard drive, all of the drivers get installed and the device is working properly. There is NO clicking sound and the led light on the hard drive is green and steady. In the past I have forgotten to unplug the hard drive without stopping it first but it still worked up until a week ago. I really need help with this because I have some important engineering documents on this drive for college. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Because the drive can be seen you are in luck. You probably need to assign it a driver letter. This can be done in Disk management. Also you should be able to click on the parititon on the drive and chose "Explore" and this will allow you to backup any files just in case. Good Luck!
