Subject: Draco and the Elder Wand?

Question
In the 7th Harry Potter book, Harry tell Voldemort that somehow Draco was the owner of the Elder Wand becuase he tried to kill Albus. I really dont get how this happend. I also dont get how Harry became the master of the Elder wand. If you could clear this up for me that would be great. Thanks.

Answer
Michelle,

The Elder Wand could only be taken and owned by someone who had defeated it's current master and taken it by force. It was Dumbledore's; when Draco raced up the stairs and appeared on the tower in Half-Blood Prince, he disarmed Dumbledore and in effect became the Elder Wand's new master. Then Snape came along and killed Dumbledore, so naturally Lord Voldemort assumed that Snape was the new master of the wand, not knowing that Draco was the one who disarmed Dumbledore. Harry then duelled with Malfoy in the Deathly Hallows and took his wand - even though Voldemort had the Elder Wand in his possession, the true master was Malfoy, and then Malfoy was defeated by Harry at Malfoy Manor - therefore 'ownership' passed to Harry. When Harry and Lord Voldemort duelled at the end, with Lord Voldemort using a wand that would not attack it's true master (Harry), the wand rebelled and rebounded Lord Voldemort's Killing Curse back onto itself. Job done. :)

Hope that helps!

Regards,

Aries
