Subject: Slytherin and Ravenclaw Confusion

Question
Is being mean a requirement to be in Slytherin besides being cunning and tanacious. In other words, are all those who are in that house mean or bad in some way or is it just some. And isn't Ravenclaw similar to Slytherin since they both deal with being wity, eager to learn, and cunning?
Are not being witty and cunning the same thing? If so what is the most significant difference between Ravenclaw and Slytherin?

Answer
One does not need to be mean in order to be in Slytherin (look at Prof. Slughorn).  And cunning is not a requirment either (Crabbe and Goyle).  The are mean people in other houses I'm sure, but mostly all of those in Slytherin dabble in the Dark Arts.
