Question I am a 59yr male, diabetic, moderately active, treadmill 5 days aweek for 30min. I have recently noticed that I only get "dizzy" when I start to eat. Standing or sitting makes no difference. I do not experience this dizziness at any other time, only when I begin to eat. My blood sugars are above 90 at these times. Sitting bp left 124/78 right 126/72 standing bp left 133/82 right 131/79.
Answer Dear Gordon,
Is the dizziness spinning? That is do you feel like you're spinning round and round or the room is spinning around you? That's the only kind of dizziness that I know of that would occur as you start to eat. Bending your head down would move little stones in your inner ear and cause spinning dizziness. If your dizziness is spinning, see an ENT specialist. He may be able to cure you by maneuvering your head to move the tiny stones out of the inner ear. If it's this kind of dizziness, it should occur when you bend your head forward even if you don't eat. If your dizziness is not spinning, then I have no good idea what causes lightheadedness only when you start to eat. A neurologist might be hepful.
Please write back if this note is not clear or doesn't answer all your questions. And PLEASE let me know if you find out what causes your diazziness. I get asked about dizziness all the time.
