Question
QUESTION: Dear Mr. Richardson,
I am definitely considering a career in medicine by applying to medical school after i get a degree. The problem is i am not sure what to major in. I want my major to be biology related and for instance i am interested in majoring in biology or biochemistry. however, i want to be 100% sure that there is no other major out there that can prepare me to become a doctor which is better than the two previously stated majors. if you can help me with this dilemma it would be most kind of you to do so...

ANSWER: Dear Omar,

If you are in college in USA, your faculty advisor can tell you.  There may be a pre-med major.  Biochem is better than biology.  If you're in a university outside the US, please check with the admissions office of med schools to which you may apply.

QUESTION: dear Mr. Richardson,
i am an american so i will be applying to a medical school in the U.S. i want my degree to be biology related but i am not sure which one will prepare me the most (knowledge wise) for medical school. my choices for medical schools include Duke, Harvard and Jhons Hopkins.
thank you

Answer
Omar, I'd choose biochem.  Be sure to get plenty of math, through calculus, and at least introductory statistics.  Med schools like it if you excel in some project other than college courses.  Sports, or volunteering in a hospital or emergency room, or doing some research.  Please visit the admissions web pages for the schools you like.
