Question Hello, My name is Catherine
I'm a 42-year-old woman who suffers from severe migraine (without aura, sometimes with pain, often with severe dizziness and no pain.)My ears have been checked and are OK but I constatly feel congestion in one ear and get dizzy minutes after eating certain food. It's too early (10 minutes) for digestion to explain the immediate reaction and it's too severe for the tiniest amount of food (one teaspoon of cheese) to justify 2 days of feeling dizzy even when immobile in bed. I had a head scan (that showed nothing)my ears were checked (showed nothing, except perfect hearing.)
My mother had the same thing: She was misdiagnosed with Meniere syndrome (probably misdiagnosed because she did not have hearing loss nor ever complained of rigning or any sound in her ear.) She was also operated for nothing, since it did not change her condition. She died later on, from other causes.
I wonder if there is anything you can suggest. I'm getting quite desperate. I have always been a salt-addict but I have recently tried cutting all salt from my diet (my blood pressure has always been fine.)
I survive on Zomig and my Neurologist has prescribed me every possible preventive medication for migraine (with no success.) Only Gravol (or Maxeran in the hospital) helps my dizziness.
Answer Dear Catherine,
The dizziness is spinning dizziness, I presume, and that you know it's not caused by Zomig. Meclizine, trade name Antivert, helps some people. I'm very sorry, but I have no expertise in treating migraine and have no sensible suggestions about migraine-induced dizziness.
