Question
Hello
I am wondering if you can offer some advice. I live in italy but I've been dreaming up a plan to spend about 4-6 weeks in oahu this summer. I would need some sort of job and affordable living quarters. My main interest is nature, particularly hiking and snorkeling-- and nature/landscape photography. In my regular life I am a clinical psychologist and a translator/interpreter, but I don't expect to find work in my field in this case- anything that allows me some degree of daytime freedom would do- or maybe something part time. I have never been to hawaii and I don't even know where to begin to make this dream a reality. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance and happy new year!

Answer
Ciao Alessia,
First of all I commend you for having such an ambitious dream, you know what they say, if you can dream it, you can do it so hang in there even though it won't be easy.
Hawaii and especially Honolulu is a very expensive place to live because so many people love it and want to make it their home but being an island we only have space for so many.
Without a working permit and/or being American it will be very difficult to get a job here, even a part-time job.
However you can try to get a summer job as a student or even a volunteer job where you don't get paid in money but for instance they would provide free living quarters for you when you work x amount of hours.
Here are a few places you may want to inquire of they hire for summer jobs:
University of Hawaii
Hawaii Pacific University
Honolulu Zoo
Waikiki Aquarium
Honolulu Academy of Arts
Bishop Museum
also try the Hawaii Visitors Bureau

all these places have websites.
And of course email me back if you need any more help with any of these ok?
Hang in there!
Malia
