Question
QUESTION: What is available

ANSWER: Aloha,
Right now if you are with a cruise ship they tour other islands and if not,
only flying. We have 3 airlines, Aloha, Hawaiian and Go!
They offer good deals daily depending on times you fly.
There is a ferry but it's new and only goes to Maui right now from Honolulu.
In 2009 it will also go to the Big Island from Honolulu.

QUESTION: What is a good deal - is it possible to go as a day trip for instance?  approx price range?

Answer
Aloha,
You can take a day trip to another island of course but keep in mind that you also have to pay to rent a car.
So including a plane ride round trip at $ 50 ( cheapest fare one way person ) and then you add a car to that $ 70-100 a day ( maybe $ 50 if you are lucky ) then do the math.
Another possibility is to do an organized tour which includes plane, bus, tourguide, all fees etc.
You do get to see more that way as if you need to go get your car, a map get your way around all in one day.
Some tours are really good, the can range from $ 150-200 per day.
There are nature tours that are not so touristy for example.
Hope this helps.
