Hawaii - Moving to Hawaii

Expert: Malia - 4/3/2008

Question
I am seriously thinking about moving to Hawaii. I have cousins that live on
Oahu, which is amazing. Id like to move some where relatively
cheap...keeping in mind that it is Hawaii. Id be nice if there wasnt a lot of
people around but Id like to move somewhere were i can get all my essentials
by biking. Also is it possibly to support yourself working on a farm and if so
are those jobs readily available. Any questions you can answer would be really
helpful. Thanks Brian

Answer
Aloha Brian,
I am not exactly sure where from you would be moving here, but Hawai'i indeed IS paradise and despite the cost of living, I have never regretted for a moment being here and I will always be here in this beautiful place.
This said, yes Hawai'i is expensive but worth it. The most expensive islands are of course O'ahu and Maui, because that's where everything is.
Now as for getting all you need biking, if you live near a city even on the other islands, you can get all your basics within biking distance plus the weather is year-round nice and you can always be outdoors.
Kailua on O'ahu is a small city, not too crowded yet offers all you need, so does Lahaina on Maui or Lihue on Kaua'i as well as Kona and Hilo on the Big Island.
Lanai City and Kaunakakai on Moloka'i are very remote and will require weekly or monthly trips outer island.
Hope this all helps in making your decision.
