Hawaii - Best island for rainforests/hiking/waterfalls?

Expert: Malia - 6/13/2008

Question
Hi
We will be in Hawaii for 6 days next Oct as part of a USA holiday - we live in Australia.
We enjoy hiking - especially in rainforest locations/waterfall areas etc. ie We would like to see the most green/lush island. We don't need lots of shops etc.
Which would be the best island for this type of holiday?
Thanks

Answer
Aloha Linda,
I believe that Kaua'i will be the best island for you. It is called the Garden Island and has the most nature and still pristine settings of all our islands. You have beaches and resorts as well of course but it's less developped than Maui or the Big Island, there are tons of rainforests and hikes to do, we have the Gran Canyon of the Pacific on Kauai as well as the Napili Coast Line which is beautiful. So check it out and then when you are ready to organize your trip further, let me know so I can give you more advice if needed.
