Hawaii - translation

Expert: Malia - 9/14/2008

Question
I am getting a tatoo of the Island of Maui. I raised my kids on Maui. I want to incorporate the words The moon, the stars, the sun and the ocean in Hawaiian language. I know each word but not certain how to properly use all of them together in phrase form. Can you help me with proper translation?
Mahalo nui loa,
Tammy Haase

Answer
Aloha Tammy,
Here are the translations:
moon=mahina
star=hoku
sun=la with a - over the a
ocean=kai     also     moana (depending on the type of ocean)

now do you want articles too as in THE stars cause the Hawaiian language has no plural but it depends on the article for example: ka hoku=the star    na ( with a - over the a) hoku=the stars

and what should your sentence say exactly?
