Question Hello,
Our family is planning on taking a trip to Maui some time this year. My husband has made some inquiries for hotel and air and we are getting a VERY good deal if we come in February. We have two children (both under 3 yo). We would be staying at the Ritz Carlton. They are going to provide up to 4 hours FREE childcare daily for 5 days and a $1000 credit for the stay. They will also provide transport from and to the airport. Airline tickets are really cheap too at around $500 per ticket including taxes. The deal just seems too good to be true... and we are trying to find the catch!! Is February a good time to go to Maui? We don't like a lot of sun, but we do like the water to be warm and not so rough. We've been to Kauai once on our honeymoon and know Hawaii can be expensive.
Also, is it a good idea to rent a car when visiting Maui? We are limited by the kids when planning things to do.
Thanks!
Answer Aloha,
I agree, it sounds wonderful. The catch? Could be nothing, honestly. I am not sure where it is you're flying in from, but $ 500 is a great deal. But remember the economy is bad right now and we need the tourists so lots of places are offering wonderful deals.
If you are flying in to Honolulu first you might then have a little flight into Kapalua, a small airport about 2 miles from the Ritz. If you're flying directly from the mainland to Maui, then you land in Kahalui and from then you can drive to the hotel, then it's about an hour. The Ritz is beautiful, Kapalua too, you can drive to Lahaina ( about 15 minutes ) and there you have great shopping, also restaurants etc.
Right now the weather has been a bit unpredictable, I went to the beach yesterday, it was about 75 F and then last night it rained and now it's about 68 F which is freezing for us.
Usually in Feb it's about 68 F at night and during the day around 75-80 F. We get some rain but hey this is Hawaii and it's beautiful all year round. I was in Kapalua about 10 months ago, it's gorgeous and everywhere in Hawaii they love kids so no worries.
I would go for it if I were you. I mean you can't go wrong with Maui and the Ritz, the ocean is chilly right now, but my daughter went swimming yesterday and if your children are too scared to go swim, if they're not like almost born with the water like my daughter, the Ritz has all these pools and waterfalls and children's pools, they are great too!
Hope this all helps.
