Question
We are planning a 10 day Hawaii Vacation in February 2010.  We have 2 children ages 4 and 7, and will be travelling with another couple with a 6 mo old.  We are thinking Kauai.  West, East, North, South?  Which would you suggest.  Also, would you recommend breaking the trip up and spending a few days on Oahu to see some of the attractions?

Answer

Kauai
Aloha,

I think with 10 days you could actually do two islands and I would consider the island of Oahu and Kauai. Oahu is easy, you would be staying in Waikiki, 99% of the hotels of there with lots of choices including condominiums which could accommodate all of you and at the same time give you more room.  On Kauai I would recommend staying on the East side, centrally located like the area known as Kapaa a really nice condo property there is called the Waipoli Beach resort. I did a two-part series on my blog about where to stay on Kauai which I think you may find helpful http://www.hawaii-aloha.com/blog/2009/06/15/where-to-stay-on-kauai-part-1/

please let me know if I can be of a more assistance to you,

Mahalo,

Bruce
