Hawaii - Hawaiian tradition

Question
I am doing a cultural report for my nursing class. Is there any special rituals, preparations or beliefs that are made for the ones who are dying?

Answer
Aloha,
Here in Hawaii we have many cultures and religions that are mixed and combined, so there is not one specific ritual per se.
However people tend to bring flowers to the funeral and also money for the family.
If there is a Chinese funeral red won't be worn.
Hawaiians wear flower prints, the family will often wear white.
Life is celebrated, with a big meal and party kind of atmosphere, right often with the open casket right there.
People will even dance around the coffin, children will play right next to it.
For the Hawaiians death is part of life and nothing to be scared about, so even children are encouraged to look at the deceased and kiss the corpse if they want to.
As for beliefs, some people believe in regular burials, but often the ashes are scattered into the ocean.
Let me know if this is enough info or if you need more.
