Question
Hi I'm working on a project all about Hawaii and my question is what do Hawaiians' believe in about afterlife, What is their theory of it?? I have searched all over and have not really found an answer to this question i hope you can help.

Answer
Aloha,
The reason you can't find a lot is probably because here in Hawaii we have all religions mixed. Many people believe in God and Gods at the same time. Even Catholics believe in Pele for example, our Goddess of Lava. There are certain rules like "don't take pork meat over the mountain" and lots of people do that. Even me. It's just so set in people's minds since childhood. The ancient Hawaiians believe that the spirits of the deceased watch over us, the "Ali'i" are the chiefs and they watch over us. A lot of places are supposed to be haunted, and some truly are. In general the Hawaiians believe in an afterlife, as in that they watch over their loved ones. The living on the other hand still put fruits and little offerings on old ruins of temples for them.
Hope this helps
