Hawaii - Wearing black to a funeral in Hawaii

Expert: Malia - 3/19/2009

Question
Aloha--

In your answer to a question asked by Gail on 11.21.05 about Hawaiin funeral
customs you say not to wear black. If the family having the funeral is from
Hawaii, but is "haole" -- is it still customary to wear Aloha attire, is black still
a "no"?

Mahalo,
Beth

Answer
Aloha,
You can wear black if you want to, but it's awkward nonetheless.
Even if you're ha'ole, you won't wear black normally but colors, Aloha attire, and it can be any color really or maybe black and white, but all black, I have never seen that here in Hawaii.
