Hawaii - child friendly for a keen surfer

Expert: Lena DeMarco - 9/22/2009

Question
Hello, We are looking to travel from Australia to Hawaii in late December for 2 weeks with a 3 and 4 year old. My husband is a keen surfer, I would like to learn - I would think 4.5 star is our budget and would prefer 2 bedrooms. Would prefer a resort area where the are now highrises ie quieter and low rise bulding. Where would be a good place to start- have no idea islands etc. Kind Regards and Thanks Susan

Answer
Hello Susan,

I would recommend the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu. You can rent an ocean front villa with two rooms. This is the quieter  North Shore side of Oahu, no high rises here! This is also the best side of the island for surfing in December. You will need to rent a car, as the public transportation on this side of the island is not very good.  This is the best bet for surfing. If you didn't mind a drive to the surf spots, my next advice would be the Kahala Mandarin resort, also on Oahu. It is much quieter than Waikiki, but closer to more activities. This resort caters to families as it has a Kid's club, dolphin discovery, and usually much calmer waters for little ones to play in. You may also do adjoining rooms at this property and have a 2 room suite!

I recommend you visit the websites for both resorts and then your decision will be much easier.

Aloha,

Lena
