AboutMalia Expertise Aloha,
I can answer I would say about 99 % of all questions relating to Hawai`i.
Experience I work for tour agencies as a tour guide so have a wonderful island experience especially from the view of travelers and newcomers to the islands. I am also a high school language teacher.
Question Hey there Malia.
My brother and I are coming to Hawaii from Australia around Mid Nov for three days. We're staying in Waialua. I was wondering if you could help us with information re. surf boards. Do you know where I can find the cheapest short boards to hire for the 3 days. I've found one company to hires a board $50 for 2 days. Is that any good? Should we try and book these boards in advance or are boards easy to come by in the land of Oahu. Thanks very much. Aliese.
Oh also if it isn't too much trouble, could you recommend any 1-2 hr bush hikes that my family can take that have good views and minimal tourists. We have a car so we can travel to the best place. Thanks Again.
Answer Aloha
The most famous surfschool on Oahu is "Hans Hedemann" and I think you should contact Hans and ask him about a reliable place on the North Shore to get boards because he knows everyone. His number is (808) 924 7778. He also has a website you can check out.
Tell him you got his name and number from me. My daughter Leilani and his son Zack used to be together in Kindergarten.
As for hikes, there is a great hike on Oahu on the windward side. It's called "Stairway to Heaven" and is used mostly by locals.
Another is "Manoa Falls". You can when you get here get "Kama'aina Maps" ( Kama'aina means local ) and get nature trail maps at our local book store ( sometimes hotels have them too but not too often ).
If you go to a grocery store they have them too sometimes.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else.
