Expert: Steven C. Scherr, D.D.S. - 8/31/2009

Question
Since school has started i have been having these horrible headaches. I don't have a clue on what is causing them but they are hurting me so bad. I wish that i could get rid of them but no matter haw bad i try to get rid of them nothing seems to work. can you tell me why.

Answer
Jacob,

I am sorry to hear you are suffering with headaches.  There are many kinds of headaches.  Headaches can be caused by jaw muscle cramps (tension headache), jaw joint problems (TMJ dysfunction), neurovascular dysfunction (migraine), sinus/inner ear inflammation (like sinusitis), nerve damage (neuritis), blood vessel inflammation (arteritis), sleep disorders, some medications, and rarely tumors.

Before headaches can be treated, it is important to determine what kind of headache is involved.  I suggest you see your doctor who can help with this.

Jacob, hope you are feeling better soon.

Steve
