Headhunters & Employment Agencies - Job Search

Expert: Ed Freeman - 10/31/2005

Question
Hello Mr. Freeman,

I write you because I have been searching for a job for 6-8 weeks now since I have moved to Atlanta, but I'm in a tough spot. I don't have any networking.

I hold an MBA and plenty of management experience (5+ years) in the retail and entertainment industry, but what I find are either jobs that I'm over-qualified for, or jobs that are mid-level (10+ years).

I'm willing to take an entry-level position, but most employers I've interviewed with seem concerned that the MBA will warrant high salary demands. It's not like I can tell them that I'm very flexible in regards to salary during the entry period on my resume'.

Anyway, so I guess my question is, how can MBA's with a few years experience approach the Atlanta job market effectively without the use of networking.

I'm aware of all of the online-job sites, but they seem to mostly be staffing positions that nobody wants to work.

Thanks for your expertise...

John P. Anderson.

Answer
John-

Thanks for your question.

The best advice I can give in your situation is to take advantage of the local Atlanta job boards.  We use http://atlantarecruiter.com and http://atlantajobbank.com and http://atlantajobpost.com extensively.

We also keep a variety of job search links on our site at

Good luck!
