Headhunters & Employment Agencies - finding a career

Expert: Ed Freeman - 11/2/2005

Question
Hi Ed,

I recently graduated from Auburn, AL in Economics. I have actually sent you my resume and cover letter earlier via some job listings.

But I have lived in Atl for a few weeks and have had no luck with online job postings.

I am originally from the UK and came over to the US to swim at Auburn on the varsity team there, so have little contacts in the US. 60-70% of job placements come from "knowing someone," so i am having some trouble.

any help you can give me in finding a placement would be great. Something in the lines of Banking, Finance or Insurance.

Matt Kidd

Answer
Matt-

Thanks for your question.

First thing I would do is to get in touch with the placement office at Auburn and find out what help they may provide.
Many entry level positions are filled through the college.

Sounds like you might be ideal for a management training program with a finance or banking related company.  Identify some of the companies you would like to pursue and then talk to them about their management training opportunities.

We also keep a variety of helpful job search links on our site at http://employmentatlanta.com/#resume

Good luck!
