Headhunters & Employment Agencies - marketing job search

Expert: Ed Freeman - 10/18/2005

Question
Hello Ed Freeman, my name is Luciana and I'm looking for an advise in my job search.
I live in Miami, florida, but I'm from argentina. Actually, I have an MBA from argentina and I'm looking a job in marketing (branding). The problem that I'm fouding is that I do not have enough experience. I moved to USA 4 years ago and I've being working as a retail manager (assitant manager, co-manager and also store manager). I always wanted to work in marketing but when I moved to USA it was very hard since I was new to the country, that is why I started in retail.
When I look at the requirement of a job I feel I have the skills they are asking, except, of course, of the years of experience. Any way I apply to that job with no answer. So, how do I start my marketing career? I graduated 5 years ago, so I'm not a new graduate. Do you now where I can apply besides monster, hot jobs and career builder. I'm eager to start my career in marketing but I can not find the way to start since everybody is requesting somebody with experience.
Thank you so much for your help.Sincerely, Luciana.

Answer
Luciana-

Thanks for your question.

You might have better luck with the local job boards there in Miami - try http://miamirecruiter.com and looks up others on google.  Most local boards allow you to not only search for and apply to jobs, but to post your resume so you may be found by recruiters and companies.

Marketing is one of those fields where you may need to start with a company "at the bottom" and work your way up.  Even if it's doing admin or clerical work in the marketing department - the idea is to get your foot in the door and prove yourself.

Good luck!
