Headhunters & Employment Agencies - relocating to the Atlanta Area and I need to find a job....

Expert: Ed Freeman - 9/29/2005

Question
My wife and I live in the Metro DC area and my wife's job is transferring to Atlanta in Jan '06.  I need to secure employment in Atlanta, but I see many job postings saying "Local candidates only".  How can I secure employment (I am a IT Systems Engineer) in Atlanta and how can I get employers to take me seriously.

Should I take on the services of an IT staffing firm? I appreciate any ideas you can offer.

Answer
Marlon-

Thanks for your question.

That's a tough one.

Atlanta is one of those places where recruiters have a tough time helping out of town candidates.  There is a deep pool of available candidates here and companies tend to want us to do a local search.

Hooking up with an IT recruiter would definitely be a good idea.  You might also want to check out some of the local Atlanta job boards - we have several listed on our site at

Good luck!
