Question I am a recent graduate with a bachelors in Anthropology, I want to continue
on to a Masters in Public Health (an MPH preferably), but my end goal is to
work in emergency management/disaster relief. I feel like anMPH will be a
very useful dgeree to have for this line of work, but should I instead seek a
MPA or simply and MA/MS in Disaster Relief/Emergency Response? I want to
be able to focus on the logistical/infrastructure issues, especially those
concerning health (hence my thinking that the MPH is a good way to
go)...what series of degrees would work best? I'm not sure if you know, but
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answer Based on the gameplan that you have set for yourself, my suggestion is to obtain the MPH, which will give you more options for the future, and will also give you a solid credential if you do end up working in disaster relief/emergency response. I would also suggest that you sit down with the head of your local or state disaster relief agency, and discuss your ideas with him/her to get a reaction to your gameplan.
