Subject: breathless when lying down

Question
My husband is breathless when lying down but only for about 30 seconds. He walks to the kitchen and is okay comes back to the bedroom and is still fine.  The minute he lies down he is breathless for a brief period.  What could this be.  Heart or lungs.

Answer
Dear Mrs. Dragt,

Heart is much more likely.  He should tell a doctor about this.  If you can't afford a doctor, write me back with his age, known illnesses, medicines, blood pressure, weight, height, any other symptoms he has (like breathless when walking 3 blocks or chest pain), recent hospitalizations and whether his legs get swollen.
