Heart & Cardiology - cheast, head, shoulder pain

Question
Hi, I am a healthy 5'3" 20 year old and weigh 105lbs . For over the past week or two I have been having a severe tension in my left shoulder starting from my neck past my shoulder blade to my hip. But mostly on my shoulder and neck. I thought I tore a muscle or possibly over extended it. The first day I woke up and felt completely nauseous and was very pale. I was gagging but nothing was coming out. Ive also been having sharp pains on the left side of my head, more-so towards the back. I also recently started developing a chest pain and fullness feeling. At one point I stood up and it felt like my heart was pumping strongly but not fast. I have no idea what is causing this. I went for a check up and the Dr. gave me moltrin 400mg for the pain which really doesnt do much and also sent me to take a c-spine xray. I am still waiting for the results. If you could possibly give me some insight to what you think might be causing these symptoms. Thank you.

Answer
Dear Aymee,

Pain down one side of the body could come from spinal trouble.  Be sure you don't have a rash with blisters, because Shingles causes pain on one side, though I think not so far as from head to hip.  Try double dose of Motrin for a few days.  You probably will need MRI of neck to be sure about spine.  Please let me know what you find out, and of course write back if this note doesn't answer all your questions.
