Question Dear Dr Richardson,
I asked you a question a few weeks ago, but have since been in hospital and came home 3 day's ago. I was at home sitting down when all of a sudden I had pain in my throat which happened 4/5 times in a few minutes. I felt very hot and quite shakey, so I phoned my local Dr, and was told to dial 999 because the pain was in my throat. A paramedic came and I had an ECG but nothing abnormal showed up, except my blood pressure was high. I have been getting the throat pain on and off for the past 6 months, sometimes with pressure/tingling in chest.
I was then taken to hospital and had another ECG and was told everything was fine again. The Dr at the hospital, wants me to have a stress test and a heart monitor fitted, and I will be having them done in the next 2 weeks, I had 2 letters today, to confirm this. I also asked the Dr, if, I could have an echocardiogram, he agreed to this but there is a 4 month waiting list. If the Dr said there was nothing wrong, why are these tests being carried out? I also had an injection in my abdomen, to thin the blood. (now got a huge black /yellow bruise)
ECG READING:
BORDERLINE ECG - MUST REVIEW.
BORDERLINE LEFT ATRIAL P> 30MS
ABNORMALITY C - 10 MV -VI
CONSIDER INFERIOR INFARCT
Q> 35MS II III AVF
I would be grateful once again for your advice.
Many thanks
Answer Dear Merryl,
EKG's are not very sensitive to clogging of coronary arteries. The stress test is the next step to assess inadequate blood supply to the heart, and will show how well your heart is pumping; echo can safely be postponed for 4 months. The Q in leads II, III and F raises a question about previous heart attack.
The bruise will clear up in 2-3 months.
Please write back if this note doesn't answer all your questions.
David Richardson
