Question
hi sir
33 year old male.. i have chest pain above the left side nipple. This pain is almost constant for 3-4 days then goes away. i have had about 2 yrs ago a full cardio work up .. including a thallum stress test, ekgs, echo and 24 hour montior that all came back negative except for sinus tachy rate is 90-120 daily. it is controlled with atonol 25mg 2xs per day but the pain which is like i said 3-4 days present .. i can go weeks with out it sometimes then it comes back. i dont know its got me scared... i worry .. should i have more tests. i dont know what else to do. correct me if i am wrong but doesnt chest wall pain go away quickly ? and not last that many days. Any advice or some were to look next would be helpful .. should i ask for more tests to be run or is that just a waste time ... i recently had 2 chest ct 1 with contrast, 1 with out both were negative.I have not felt what i consider to be normal in 2 yrs .. any help , thoughts would be great .. im sorry to keep asking you about this but your answers put me at ease and your knowlege is impecable.. thanks

Answer
Dear Matt,

Chest wall pain may occur repeatedly for years and years.  If you can modify the pain, make it better or worse by pressing firmly with fingers on the painful area, you can be sure it is chest wall pain.  It's probably that even if pressure doesn't modify the pain, since all your heart tests are normal.  No more tests will help.

Please write back if this note doesn't answer all your questions.
