Heart & Cardiology/blood pooling

Question
Hello,
I have read that when you're working out with the weights and you stop and sit down, coming from intense effort to full stop, the blood pools in the legs area causing problems. What does it mean? How does blood pools in certain tissues during effort? In what percentage? When does normal circulation reestablishes?

Answer
Hi Gheorghe,
You are incorrect, exercise helps the blood return to your heart through the muscle "massage" to the veins in your legs. If leg swelling occurs it is because of several possible reasons:
1. Heart failure:

2. Venous insufficiency, sometimes caused by thrombosis
3. Lymphatic obstruction
There are no percentages as changes depend on the cause and severity.
Hope this helps,
