Question
I had a question regarding my heart. When I was an avid runner my heart rate was very low around 40 beats per minutr and I often would get PVCs many times and I suffer from anxiety as well and sometimes I would get blood pressure readings of 180/100 when I was anxious. Since I stopped running my heart rate is around 55 at rest. My blood pressure is more normal even when I am anxious since I haven't been running at all. My question is would increased sympathetic tone cause an increase in blood pressure when I am anxious and also does increases heart conditioning cause pvc's? Im scared to go back to running because of these issues.

Answer
Hi Rich,
Re: would increased sympathetic tone cause an increase in blood pressure when I am anxious
Yes, but not to the extent that it would generate a BP 180/100.
Re: PVCs. They need to be diagnosed with an EKG or Holter monitor, but if true most are perfectly harmless in someone with an otherwise normal heart.
