Heart & Cardiology/Heart

Dear dr, my cousin thinks he may have a heart problem. EKG is normal but there are times where he feels faint and weak. He says he feels his heart pound and then it stops and he feels really weak for a second and then it feels normal. What could that be?thank you. Sincerely, martha

Hello Martha,

They are probably skipped heart  beats.  Skipped beats are normal heart activity, easy to understand as normal from knowledge of the heart's electrical system and occurring in about half of us.  They don't mean you have heart disease or will in the future develop heart disease or any cardiac catastrophe.

Please write back if this note doesn’t answer all your questions.
