Heart & Cardiology/Fast Heart Rate

Question
My brother is 19 and suffers from severe PTSD caused by severe abuse as a child and teenager. He has severe anxiety, part of his PTSD, and last night something panicked him and I took his pulse because he said his heart was fast and his chest hurt. His heartrate was anywhere between 160-200bpm, a nurse friend of mine said that is tachycardic. Is there anything that can cause this aside from the anxiety and stress? From ages 8-13 he was forced into heavy drug use including cocain, meth, and other drugs, even heroin, and I wasn't sure if the drug use could have damaged his heart or if he has some type of arithmia. He says that his heart feels like that at least a few times a month. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Bobby,
Heavy drug use can damage the heart, but whether he has rhythm problems can only be proven with testing:
